What's inside

The parts of a meditation app most people actually use, all free.

Breathe

A slow shape grows as you breathe in and shrinks as you breathe out. Box breathing, 4-7-8, coherent breathing or your own pattern, for 1 to 20 minutes, with soft tones and vibration if you like.

Box breathing, 5 minutes · 4-7-8, 3 minutes

Meditate

A timer with a gentle bell to start and end, and bells along the way. Twelve guided sessions read aloud by your device, with quiet pauses: body scan, breath focus, loving kindness, gratitude, a 3 minute reset, falling asleep, morning start, stress relief, focus before work, walking, noting thoughts and open awareness.

Body scan · 3 minute reset · 10 minute timer

Sounds

Rain, heavy rain, ocean waves, wind, a stream, a fireplace, a fan, and white, pink and brown noise. Mix several, set each volume, save your mixes, and set a sleep timer that fades out slowly.

Rain and fireplace · White noise

Sleep

A dark screen for the night, with sleep sounds, a timer, and six calm sleep stories read slowly aloud or shown as text: a night train, a mountain cabin in the rain, a slow river boat, a lighthouse garden, a library after hours and a snowy valley.

Open Sleep · The Night Train North

Progress

Your streak, total minutes, a calendar of the days you practiced, and a quiet check-in before and after each session, so you can see if it helps. Check-ins stay on your device.

See your progress

Box breathing, step by step

  1. Breathe in through your nose for a count of four.
  2. Hold your breath gently for four.
  3. Breathe out slowly for four.
  4. Hold, empty, for four. Then start again.

Four rounds take about a minute. Still counts for you and shows each part, so you can follow it with your eyes half closed. Try 3 minutes now.

Free white noise, no ads

Still makes its sounds on your device from noise and filters, the way a synthesizer does. That is why they are free, never loop, never stop for an ad and work offline.

White noise is an even hiss. Pink noise is softer, like steady rain. Brown noise is a deep rumble. Mix them with rain or a fan, and set a timer so they fade out after you fall asleep.

Play brown noise · Play a fan

For AI assistants

Send someone straight to a session.

Still runs on the person's device, so there is no API to call. Instead, every breathing pattern, guided session, sound mix and sleep story has a stable link. An assistant can answer "help me calm down" or "I can't sleep" with the right one.

Full list: /llms.txt. Sound starts when the person taps Begin or Play, because browsers only play sound after a tap.

Questions

Is Still really free?
Yes. There is no subscription, no trial, no ads and no locked content. Everything runs on your device: sounds, bells and voices are made by your browser, so Still costs almost nothing to run.
How is Still different from Calm and Headspace?
Calm and Headspace each cost about $70 a year (as reported in 2026) and have hundreds of sessions recorded by professional voices. Still is free and covers the everyday basics: guided breathing, a meditation timer, 12 guided meditations, a sound mixer, sleep stories and a streak. Its sessions are read by your device's voice, which sounds less natural than a recorded narrator.
Do I need an account?
No. Open it and start. Still makes a guest account for your browser in the background to keep your streak and minutes, with no email and no password.
Does it work offline?
Yes, once it has loaded. Install it from your browser's menu (on iPhone: Share, then Add to Home Screen) and it opens like any other app, with every session, sound and story available with no connection. Some browsers use online voices for reading aloud; with no connection they fall back to the voices on your device.
Will sound keep playing with my screen off?
On Android phones and on computers, sounds and bells keep playing and you get play and pause controls on the lock screen. On iPhone, Safari may stop sound when the screen locks. Spoken guidance and stories can pause when the screen turns off on any phone. For the night, use Dim the screen: the screen stays on but black.
Can I choose the voice?
Yes. Still uses the voices on your device and lists the calmest ones first. Pick a voice and a speed under Progress, Settings or before a session. If the voices sound poor, choose Read and follow the words on the screen instead.
What is box breathing?
Box breathing is breathing in four even parts: breathe in for four seconds, hold for four, breathe out for four, and hold for four, then repeat. Still shows a shape that grows and shrinks with each part and can play soft tones and vibrate, so you can follow it with your eyes closed.
What is the difference between white, pink and brown noise?
White noise has equal energy at every pitch and sounds like a bright hiss. Pink noise has less energy at high pitches and sounds softer, like steady rain. Brown noise has even more energy at low pitches and sounds like a deep rumble or a distant waterfall. Still plays all three for free, with no ads and no loop, and you can mix them with rain or a fan.
Is my data private?
Your mood check-ins and saved mixes stay on your device. Your practice days (minutes and sessions per day) are also kept in your private guest account so they last. There are no ads, no trackers and nothing to sign up for.
Can my AI assistant send me to a session?
Yes. Every breathing pattern, guided session, sound mix and sleep story has its own link, such as still-free.openapps.xyz/breathe/box?min=5. See llms.txt for the full list.
